Looking for laburnum (especially larger boards) for use in musical instruments. laburnum is one of the few locally available woods that can be used as a rosewood substitute in bridges and fingerboards - as such it is sought after by luthiers looking to avoid unsustainable tropical woods. laburnum is common in uk gardens (it has ornamental yellow flowers) but often overlooked. large trees are also hard to come by. the best laburnum for my purposes is as straight grained as possible, with the grain running perpendicular to the face of the board (quarter sawn) and consisting primarily of heartwood.
